Maryam Sanda, who is standing trial for allegedly killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, has reportedly revealed in a statement that nude pictures on his phone led to the fight that eventually led to his killing.
Ms Sanda was charged for the murder of her husband Mr Bello, a son of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Haliru Bello. The accused was charged alongside her mother, Maimuna Aliyu; her brother, Aliyu Sanda; and their house-help, Sadiya Aminu. Mr Bello died in November 2017.
During a court session on Tuesday,Josephine Onyinyedu a police officer involved in the investigation of Mr Bello’s death told the court that Mrs Sanda had written the statement herself, “without being forced to do it”. Oyinyedu is the sixth witness presented to the court by the prosecution on Mrs Sanda’s trial.
In the statement which was tendered as an exhibit before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High court in Maitama, Mrs Sanda said she saw nude pictures a lady had sent to her husband’s phone and confronted him.
According to Mrs Sanda in the statement, during the fight in their Maitama residence, Mr Bello had slipped on a wet floor and then fell over a broken shisha pot. She added that she drove him to the General Hospital in Maitama where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following this, the judge, Yusuf Halilu, ruled that the witness was in a good position to tender the document since the report was addressed to the police.
Mr Halilu then adjourned to February 27, for continuation of trial.
