The Bible emphatically says that “you are wrong because you know neither Scriptures nor the power of God” Matthew 22:29. One of the most abused Scriptural doctrine in our today’s modern hip pop Christianity is “the doctrine of honour”,people find it very easy to embrace it within the context of traditional obligation, like when a young dude is going to ask a lady’s hand in marriage,it is expected of him by the tradition to pay due obeisance to the elders or in laws of his proposed wife to be. In most cases one is expected to prostrate on the ground to ascertain or authenticate his regards for his in laws to be.
This is a long ancient biblical custom observed & practice by old testament folks, upon which kingdoms were both governed & ruled in the Bible. It was a customary tradition for one to bow down in honour to kings in he Bible. In Genesis 42:6 & 43:26-28 we see how Joseph’s brothers bowed down to the ground before him in outright honour. In Genesis 33:3-7 Jacob bowed himself to the ground seven times to Esau in honour to him. In Ruth 2:10 Ruth bowed down to the ground in honour to Boaz,in 1 Samuel 25:23-41 Abigail fell on her face before David & bowed down to the ground in honour to him.
2 Samuel 14:22 & 2 Samuel 14:33 Joab fell to the ground on his face & bowed himself & thank the King. In 2 Samuel 24:20 Araunah went out & bowed right before the king with his face to the ground in display of honour. In 1 Kings 1:23 Nathan the prophet bowed down before king David with his face to the ground. In the same 1 Kings 1:31 the bible reveals that Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground & paid homage to the king. In 1 Chronicles 21:21 Ornan bowed himself to David with his face to the ground in outright demonstration of honour.
Modern hip pop christians find it very difficult to subscribe to this rudimentary Scriptural truth,we begin to misconcept the culture of honour for human worshipping. By so doing unconsciously begin to strip honour away from those that legitimately deserve it- especially our parents, spiritual authorities & mentors. We find it very easy to confirm to the honour enshrined betwixt & between our human tradition than of the kingdom.
Among the synoptic gospel narrations of the story of the woman with the alabaster box,the one captured in the gospel according to Luke 7:37-50 is more vivid & fascinating, when the woman came & knelt down at Jesus’ feet & broke the alabaster box He didn’t rebuke her nor stop her, rather allowed her to express honour that other around couldn’t give to Him,in fact she went further to kissed his feet proceeded by using her hair to wipe His feet not just with the oil but also with her tears.
The Pharisee who were the custodian of the law forbid her because she was a sinner, then Jesus replied “Then turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, Do you see this woman? When I came into your house, you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
You gave Me no kiss, but she from the moment I came in has not ceased [pintermittently] to kiss My feet tenderly and caressingly.
You did not anoint My head with q[cheap, ordinary] oil, but she has anointed My feet with [costly, rare] perfume.
Therefore I tell you, her sins, many [as they are], are forgiven her—because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little”.
In John 11:32 after the dead of Lazarus,at Jesus arrival Mary ran & fell down at His feet in outright honour, respect & acknowledgement of His divinity. What was he outcome of her honour to Him? He immediately asked them where was Lazarus buried he walked straight there & the bible says that Jesus wept. He was compelled by her gesture of honour & respect,in fact it was the only place in the entire Scripture that Jesus said that anywhere the gospel is preached that her name will be make mentioned.
I choose to honour every kingdom patriarch that has impacted my life directly or indirectly & the lives of countless others. That I’ll do with either kneeling down, with my substance or with everything I’ve got. If I decided to lay down, put my back on the ground & my both legs up then I think is my legs & knees not yours please leave me alone okay. In our sincere attempt to express honour we shouldn’t stretch it beyond boundary, for every truth or revelation stretched beyond certain jurisdictions becomes error & extremely hazardous to our lives & the Christian faith.
